广水经济开发区于1997年8月，经湖北省政府批准成立，规划面积1 5平方公里。其中：仓储物流区35公顷，火车站核心商贸区30公顷，公共服务综合区1 54公顷，商贸居住区41公顷，滨水商住区24公顷，综合工业区147公顷，食品工业区1 30公顷，机械工业区96公顷，化工工业区1 43公顷。后期开发区拓展区域7平方公里。着重在机械制造、高新电子、药用包装、食品加工等四个优势产业上，加大产业对接合作力度。
